Basejumping!

This guy is jumping off a cliff wearing a wingsuit, which is just a step below the rocketpack in terms of human flight. I tried to make a wingsuit once- it consisted of two flattened cardboard boxes. Needless to say, that didn’t work. Fortunately, I’m not a wingsuit designer. The folks who designed this wingsuit used Flometrics software to study the way the air moved around it (as seen in the video). It’s reassuring to think that they didn’t start out with a human guinea pig.

Flometrics makes thermal analysis software that simulates fluid flow and heat transfer, allowing building designers to make very efficient heating and cooling systems. I imagine that this type of software could do wonders for designing cooler running engines, possibly even air cooled automobile engines. I can imagine tons of other uses for the software as well- designing cooler running computers, for example. Can you say overclocking? With uses like these, this is seriously awesome software.
